YMRT exists to bring additional clinical capability to the scene of serious medical and trauma incidents, supporting ambulance crews and helping patients receive specialist care as early as possible.
Emergency response and clinical education
YMRT brings specialist volunteer clinicians to serious medical and trauma incidents across Yorkshire, supporting ambulance crews and helping patients receive enhanced care as early as possible.
Alongside response work, we train and mentor already qualified clinicians who want to develop their prehospital emergency medicine skills. Training strengthens the team and helps prepare the next generation of practitioners.
Our three areas of work
Emergency Response
YMRT supports serious medical and trauma incidents across Yorkshire and surrounding areas. Our clinicians may attend road traffic collisions, cardiac arrests, major trauma, complex medical emergencies and multi-agency incidents where enhanced prehospital care can make a difference.
Working alongside Yorkshire Ambulance Service, our volunteer clinicians bring specialist clinical skills, equipment and decision-making to patients before they reach hospital.
We typically cover weekends and night shifts where extra support is most needed, depending on volunteer availability.
Clinical Education
We help develop clinicians with an interest in prehospital emergency medicine through regular teaching sessions, simulation training and clinical mentoring opportunities.
We support clinicians at various stages of their prehospital career, from those exploring the specialty to more experienced practitioners looking to develop further.
Our education activities include clinical skills training, scenario-based learning, case discussions, mentoring and supervised opportunities to observe and participate in prehospital care.
Governance & Readiness
Safe prehospital care requires more than enthusiasm. YMRT maintains structured governance and audit processes to support safe, consistent care across Yorkshire.
We are registered with the Care Quality Commission as a provider of regulated activities (provider ID 1-854332245). The CQC has not yet inspected YMRT. We work alongside Yorkshire Ambulance Service and do not replace the ambulance service.

These examples show where specialist prehospital clinicians may provide additional support. YMRT does not self-deploy and operates around volunteer availability.
Serious Road Traffic Collisions
Prehospital clinicians can use advanced pain relief, deliver an emergency anaesthetic or perform specialist surgical interventions for critically injured patients.
Cardiac Arrest & Critical Illness
Experienced decision making, anaesthetic delivery and ultrasound skills can help guide patient care, saving critical moments when it matters.
Major Trauma & Complex Incidents
At major trauma incidents or complex multi-casualty events, specialist prehospital clinicians can provide enhanced capability alongside the ambulance service response.
Paediatric & obstetric emergencies
Further training with paediatric patients and obstetric emergencies can help with complex interventions and decision making.
